                 Failures in English: Different Causes

Rajon, Dhaka : Speakers at a discussion yesterday expressed concern that a large number of students fail in English every year in public examinations despite studying it as a compulsory subject from 1 to Honours level. They are being deprived of jobs of all categories. Admitting the fact, the eminent educationalists of the country pointed out some of the most likely causes of it. The traditional methodology of teaching aids our learners little in the course of learning English. English, being a foreign language always seize our students with English phobia and they think it difficult to learn without trying to the limit of their capabilities. The specialists also said that hard and fast rules of grammar doesn't case them in learning English. Besides our institution and teachers are not equipped enough to meet the needs of our learners. They also felt that the curriculum introduced by the NCTB is mostly unsuitable for our Bengali speaking students. There are barely any opportunities for training of our staffs and developing of our institution.
And finally the speakers stressed on one thing that most of the students do not find interest in learning English and they avoid learning it. So they fail in the examinations. Some of the students try to learn English without understanding and it come almost no use of them in the examinations and as a result they fail.
